Background

Professor Joseph Chan has a biomedical engineering background and dedicates himself to applying bioengineering technologies in the field of ophthalmology. His research interest lies in the design and testing of ophthalmic biomaterials, surgical tools and diagnostic tools, and the development of eye-on-a-chip microfluidic platforms for physiologically relevant studies in eye research.
The current research focuses include:
-
Eye-on-a-chip models for glaucoma-related and corneal scarring-related studies;
-
Microfluidic-based diagnostic tools for small volume sample analysis;
-
Assistive technologies that tackle the daily-living problems of visually impaired persons; and
-
Teaching innovations for medical and biomedical engineering undergraduate studies.
